Cabeza de Vaca was known to plant a cross when he landed on the new land as shown on the picture. The indianssurrounding him are those whom in time became his followers and followed him where ever he went. The meaning of Cabeza's hand laying on top of the man's head is a symbol of his supposed healing powers.
